I liked this book. It takes a new twist by giving an inheritance to a woman of the Old West so that she has the means to pursue her dreams. But what will a poor woman do with all that sudden wealth? And can she handle the people who want to share her good fortune? Christmas is the perfect backdrop to show what's really important in the world.
Delia Keller lived a poor life after her father took off to seek his fortune. With her preacher grandfather, they had their physical needs supplied by their parishioners, but there wasn't any money left for luxuries - like fixing the roof.
Delia is left destitute when her grandfather dies but on the day she buries him, a stranger, Jude Tucker, rides into town and hands her a bank certificate - the entire estate of her father who had struck it rich and left it all to her in his will. She was now completely without family, but a very wealthy woman.
And it's it nice that an important man whom she's always looked favorably suddenly starts courting her.
Jude Tucker promised Delia's father he'd look after her. He's delivered the bank certificate and ensured she has access to it's funds. He used to be a preacher but lost his faith in the civil war. Now that Delia's grandfather has passed on, the town needs a preacher. Jude doesn't want anyone to realize his former profession. He really should leave town before his secret gets out but how can he go when there's a chance Delia's new beau is only after her money. He really shouldn't concern himself, but then he did catch the guy exiting one of the upstair's rooms in the saloon and everyone knows what that means.
Delia was just too rich and innocent for her own good. Somebody had to keep an eye out for her.

Just finished this book yesterday. Great book. Well written. Excellent detail. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Delia and Jude unfold. The mutual respect was touching. Even if you are not a sucker for romance (I obviously am), the author did a fine job communicating her understanding of a loving and forgiving God... a good Sunday teaching I will gladly share with my children. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Delia Keller's pastor grandpa dies leaving her penniless. When a handsome stranger rides into town, bringing with him her fathers's legacy to her, Delia finds herself suddenly rich. Will she allow God to guide her in making the right decisions or will she allow her new riches to go to her head.
I decided to try this story because I'm a sucker for Christmas romance novels. I thought this story had some promise, but ultimately I was a little bored. Delia was a nice character, but she didn't really hold my interest. There were elements of Mary Sue perfection in her actions. I would've liked her better if she were more flawed. Her only real rebellion is riding the horse Zephyr and dating Charles and being tempted to spend her money on worldly things. Human temptations at best.
Jude was a likeable guy, but he and Delia's realtionship was too generic. The villain was sort of bland.
Delia generally made the right decisions, trusted in God, and things worked out well.
This was an entirely inoffensive read , but it lacked excitement and was too predicable for me. I think I'd have liked the book more if the two major characters had been a bit riskier or they mixed it up a bit and made the heroine- for instance- the abused wife of the drunk or Charles a bit more of a contender.

How would your life change if you suddenly received a lot of money? That's the question behind HILL COUNTRY CHRISTMAS, and it leads to unique characters and an emotional romance. A fast-paced, thoroughly enjoyable read!
